What are the bathtub dimensions and specifications of a comfortable bathtub? That depends, of course, on your physique and the number of people you wish to lie in the bath with. On average, the specifications below can be considered guidelines:
- Bath depth or bath height. A depth of at least 50 cm is required to ensure that the body is well submerged. The most comfortable bathtub is a deep bath. This often has a depth of around 60 cm.
- Bath width. The desired width is very dependent on your physique. Do you want your arms supported by armrests? Then it is important that the bath is not too wide.
- Bath length. The most common lengths of baths are 160, 170 or 180 cm. Of course it is also possible to find extra short baths with a size of, for example, 150 cm, or extra long baths of, for example, 190 cm.
- Bath bottom. Most bathtubs have a flat bottom. For the most comfortable effect, however, it is nicer to have an ergonomic floor, where the back is lower than the feet. This prevents your body from sinking: you lie stable and well supported in the bath. Click here to see examples of ergonomic bathtubs. Look carefully at the drawings of the bathtub, paying close attention to the inside dimensions of the bathtub and the bottom length. Some bathtubs have very thick edges, making the bottom much smaller in length and width than the outside dimensions. Also look closely at the exact shape and orientation of the backrest. With freestanding baths the thickness of the bath rim is relevant: with very thin rims (as with most solid surface baths) the neck does not lie comfortably against the bath rim and therefore it is also possible to install a neck cushion there.
